How does IPL photo facial work?

IPL works by sending light energy into your skin.  When the heat is absorbed the skin cells generate new collagen. In addition it eliminates the vessels that cause redness and reduces unwanted melanin that produces pigmented lesions. Through this process skin gets restored, colors are blended and your skin looks smoother, more vibrant, clearer and younger looking.

What skin concerns does IPL photo facial treat?
  • Pigmented lesions (e.g., age spots, freckles, sun damage)

  • Vascular lesions (e.g., telangiectasia, cherry angiomas, port wine stains, rosacea)

  • Acne

  • Skin laxity and uneven skin tone

What to Expect during the Treatment?

Since IPL uses pulsed light energy your eyes will be protected with safety goggles.  A thin ultrasound gel will be applied to your face or treated area.  As IPL devices passes over your face and–or neck you may briefly feel a warm rubber band snap sensation as the light is absorbed by the targeted areas.  It is a considered painless treatment and most patients tolerate it well without any topical anesthetic.  Depending on how large of an area you are getting treated the entire procedure may take half an hour to 45 minutes.

What is the Recovery Time & Results after IPL Photo Facial?

IPL photo facial is considered a lunchtime facial with virtually no downtime.  Most people will feel comfortable returning to work and resuming most activities the same day of treatment.  After treatment your skin may have mild redness and flushing for short period of time.

For some pigmented lesions you will see a darkening of the area followed by fading and flaking off at the later stage.  Your treated skin will feel smoother, fine lines and pores will be less noticeable and sunspots or uneven pigmentation will fade.

Results depend on your condition, the number of treatments and the areas treated.  In general most people will need an initial series of 4-6 treatments 3 to 4 weeks apart and then 1-2 additional treatment each year for maintenance.
